Established bar operator from Los Angeles and popular local coffee vendor complement the Make Ready Market food hall to create River North’s tasty new destination
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SAN ANTONIO – Make Ready is San Antonio’s upcoming culinary destination. A dozen local vendors, including Mila Coffee and a brewery concept by Pouring with Heart, will welcome patrons with a variety of offerings to be enjoyed inside its re-imagined buildings and across communal green space. Construction is currently underway, with opening expected this winter.
Nestled between Broadway and the San Antonio River on the same block as The Soto office building at 711 Broadway, Make Ready will serve as a dynamic center for the River North neighborhood. Utilizing two historic buildings surrounded by expansive courtyards, Make Ready will be a natural gathering spot for residents, office workers, cyclists, and passersby to meet, day and night.
Make Ready is a re-interpretation of the existing name of the building which will house the food hall. Originally part of the Cavender Cadillac dealership, the Make Ready building was where the premium brand cars received their final clean and polish. Cars were “made ready” prior to being delivered to customers. Now the building will serve local, quality, “made ready” food to its patrons.
The project’s first major tenant will be a brewery concept by Pouring with Heart, a group of longtime operators and builders who have a passion for community-focused bars in Austin, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The Make Ready location will be their first project in San Antonio. Currently under design, their plan is to create a space that celebrates the existing architecture of the historic building it will occupy with an expansive outdoor patio making it ideal for an after-work happy hour or weekend date night. Bar offerings will include craft beer brewed on-site alongside draft cocktail classics. Pouring with Heart will announce the name of its new San Antonio brewery in the coming months.
“We immediately fell in love with San Antonio because it truly celebrates its culture and community,” said Peter Stanislaus, Head of Development for Pouring with Heart. “In collaboration with Make Ready, we hope to create a gathering place that unites folks through imbibing, and we are eager to connect with the neighborhood.”
Make Ready will also be the new home for one of San Antonio’s favorite coffee vendors, Mila Coffee, which operates a popular coffee trailer at Broadway News. Mila Coffee will house a stand-alone, walk-up spot along the new bicycle track currently under construction on Avenue B.
“We are thrilled to take this next step and introduce more people to our brand of coffee,” said Marco Cardel, owner of Mila Coffee. “Make Ready was the perfect place for our second location because of the community gathering aspect of the project, the connection to The Soto office building and other nearby businesses, as well as proximity to the River Walk.”
The overall development, including The Soto, Make Ready and the surrounding properties is being led by Hixon Properties. Based in San Antonio, Hixon has been an active developer in downtown for decades but is now focused on development of its River North portfolio. “Our desire is to find tenants that enhance the community by providing great experiences in approachable and familiar venues,” said Hunter Kingman, Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for Hixon Properties. “We know we have found that in Pouring with Heart and Mila Coffee. In time, Make Ready will be filled with other unique and exciting tenants offering great culinary and beverage experiences for visitors and locals alike.”
